For those of you not from Connecticut, you may not know about Frank Pepe's Pizzeria Napoletana...
It is arguably one of the oldest (if not the oldest) Pizzeria in the US, and one of the best.
They opened in mid 1920's and are still around today. Long lines soon after opening and it is not uncommon to wait an hour or more to get in. Even ordering a pie for takeout can take that long.
Their best pizza is the White Clam pie -- made from TONS of fresh shucked clams. No canned clams here! And they are quite generous with the clams. The pizza is cooked in a coal fired oven, which gives it a unique flavor not available at most pizzerias (Coal fired ovens are hard to get through local zoning codes due to tougher emissions laws now adays.)
One Pepe's fan created this
greeting card.
If you are ever in New Haven, CT check out Frank Pepe's! It's worth the trip, and the wait.
